1970 Jaguar XKE Series II

Engine
Matching 4.2L I6
Miles
37,784 shown

British Racing Green convertible with tan leather, matching-numbers four-speed drivetrain, black hardtop and soft top, tools, manuals, and extensive service and restoration receipts.

This 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 convertible, chassis 1R12799, is finished in British Racing Green with a light tan leather interior. It comes with both a black hardtop and a high-quality black satin/mohair soft top. The car retains its original matching-numbers 4.2-liter straight-six engine (7R110389) and original matching-numbers, fully synchronized four-speed gearbox (KE12345). The odometer shows 37,784 miles.

This beautiful classic sports car is ready to be enjoyed and to make new memories. It was owned for most of its life by a gentleman who left it to his nephew. The nephew, a client and friend of Roy's, later traded it toward a CAV Ford GT40. Recently completed work includes a new lightweight flywheel, high-performance clutch and pressure plate, and release bearing.

While the engine and transmission were out, the engine compartment was detailed and a lighter high-performance starter was fitted, along with replacement gaskets, seals, hoses, and a new battery. The floor wells had previously been dented by incorrect jacking, so new replacement floor wells from Moss were properly welded in and are now as new. The car was originally equipped with factory air conditioning. Because it is a fair-weather convertible and the system was rarely used, it was removed to provide more legroom for taller occupants. The air-conditioning components are included separately should a future owner wish to refit them.

The paint presents very well for its age, with light touch-up patina, and is rated 8 out of 10: show quality, though not Pebble Beach concours quality. The leather interior is also rated 8 out of 10, the soft top 9 out of 10, and the hardtop 8 out of 10. The Jaguar drives smoothly, corners and brakes well, and comes with copies of restoration and service receipts, a workshop manual, parts-supply books, and tools. The California personalized plates reading “1 Jaguar” are not included; new plates have been assigned.

1966 Jaguar XKE Coupe

Engine
Ford 302 V8
Interior
Tan leather

Regency Red Series 1 coupe with a dyno-tuned Ford 302 V8, automatic transmission, new tires, and a fresh light tan leather interior. A beautiful driver for someone who wants character over concours purity.

This is a very interesting 1966 Jaguar XKE Series 1 coupe with a custom, dyno-tuned Ford 302 V8. It was owned by an elderly couple from 1981 onward and customized over the years so that both of them could drive it and almost any mechanic could service it. He loved the car's original factory silver-blue metallic finish with a dark blue interior; she preferred Regency Red with a light tan interior.

Today, the car is finished in Regency Red and features beautiful classic lines, a brand-new light tan leather interior, and new tires. Its dyno-tuned Ford 302 V8 is paired with an automatic transmission. It starts at the push of a button, accelerates very smoothly, and sounds wonderful at speed. The car presents beautifully and drives well. The engine bay is less polished than the exterior, which is reflected in the asking price.

The XKE coupe has often been described as one of the most beautiful automotive designs in the world. Extensive photographs and some video are available to document this example. Realistically, this is a car to enjoy at normal road speeds—not one to drive at the 150-mph limits associated with a specially prepared track car.

Most systems work well, and the previous owners enjoyed the Jaguar for many years, though a few smaller projects were never completed. To accommodate the wider and more powerful Ford V8, the lower frame was strengthened and the front and top framing were modified. The tachometer and speedometer were never connected because of the automatic transmission. The owners also preferred a cleaner look with less chrome, and the car remains in that form today. After the husband passed away, his wife eventually moved back East to be near her family.

Every enthusiast has a different vision for a classic. Some want a concours-perfect restoration, while others prefer to personalize a car or simply drive and enjoy it. This XKE gives its next owner the freedom to choose among several paths:

  1. Enjoy it as an attractive, great-sounding 1966 classic that can be driven now, make memories, and continue appreciating in value.
  2. Complete additional mechanical and cosmetic work under the bonnet, or install a new crate engine and five-speed transmission to raise its finish level and potential value.
  3. Return it closer to stock with a rebuilt, polished original-type engine and four-speed transmission—or a non-original five-speed—to pursue a higher-value specification.

1931 Bianchi S8 Graber Cabriolet

Coachwork
Graber
Shown
Pebble Beach

A right-hand-drive, Graber-bodied straight-eight shown at Geneva, later restored and presented at concours events including Pebble Beach.

This is believed to be the only long-wheelbase Bianchi S8 convertible cabriolet in the world with Graber coachwork and a 2.9-liter straight-eight engine. Approximately 250 closed-roof S8s were built, including some later altered to resemble convertibles, but this example was constructed as a true cabriolet. The car was displayed on the Graber stand at the 1931 Geneva Motor Show.

Originally special-ordered by a watchmaker for use in Sweden and Switzerland, it was built with right-hand drive, as Sweden drove on the left at the time. The Bianchi was imported to La Jolla, California, around 1962 and subsequently spent approximately 30 years in storage.

A five-year restoration was completed in 2012. The car was then entered in four concours d'elegance events, including Pebble Beach, and earned four trophies. It is accompanied by extensive documentation and copies of restoration receipts.

This exceptional vintage automobile is a singular opportunity for a serious collector. Interesting trades may be considered. Please contact Roy for further details or to arrange a private viewing.
